And just who the heck am I?? Fair question. A life-long animal lover, I for some reason spent the first 10 years of my professional career in journalism, including seven years as a reporter at the now-defunct San Diego Tribune.

Nearly five years ago I started our own pet-sitting service in the San Diego area — Peninsula Pet Valet, where "Pedigree is an Attitude." With a client base of nearly 500 dogs, cats, fish, rodents, birds and the occasional iguana, I’ve seen firsthand the many wonders and frustrations of pet ownership. With your help and feedback, perhaps we’ll gain a better understanding of the special bond between humans and their four-legged, feathered or gilled counterparts in the domestic animal world.
